While no one’s skin is perfect, we all aspire to have smooth and even skin that looks youthful and healthy. Skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, and rosacea can cause people to become self-conscious about their appearance. The BBL™ PhotoFacial can treat a variety of skin concerns and improve the overall look of the skin.

BBL PhotoFacial treatment at NorCal Plastic Surgery in the San Francisco Bay Area

What is the BBL™ PhotoFacial?

The BBL™ PhotoFacial is a rejuvenating facial treatment that uses BroadBand Light energy to improve skin texture and tone. The treatment is non-invasive and is a fairly gentle way to make dramatic improvements to cosmetic skin concerns.

During a BBL™ PhotoFacial treatment, you will be given protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the light of the laser. A topical anesthetic will also be applied to help keep you comfortable for the duration of the treatment.

As the laser slowly moves across the treatment area, you will feel some warmth within the skin, and you may also feel a slight tingling or snapping sensation. This may cause you some discomfort, but it will not be painful. The treatment usually takes about 30 minutes, but you can expect to have an additional wait time as the numbing cream takes effect.

Learn More About the BBL™ PhotoFacial

The BBL™ PhotoFacial uses BroadBand Light laser technology, the most powerful form of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) on the market. The laser device sends a broad spectrum of wavelengths deep into the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. The proteins are fundamental to the structure of the skin, and they allow the skin to "bounce back" when faced with tension or pressure.

As collagen and elastin levels increase, the skin becomes more resilient, and fine lines and wrinkles become less visible. The skin texture and tone also improve, and there is a noticeable increase in vibrancy and clarity.

The BBL™ energy also targets the pigment in the skin, fading signs of sun damage and hyperpigmentation. But the BBL™ laser doesn’t just target brown spots, it also targets red pigmentation, making it beneficial for scars, rosacea, and broken capillaries.

Patients can expect to see skin changes 3 days to 2 weeks after a BBL™ PhotoFacial. The PhotoFacial is most commonly performed on the face, but BBL™ laser technology can be used on many areas of the body. Other common treatment areas include the:

  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Hands

Immediately after a BBL™ PhotoFacial, your skin may look and feel like it is sunburned, with some redness, swelling, and warmth. This typically subsides after a few days, at which point the top layers of your skin may begin to discolor slightly and then peel away, revealing fresh, healthy skin underneath. This phase can take up to several weeks. During this time, you should avoid any direct sun exposure and use a good sunscreen.

Most patients will need a series of three to six BBL™ laser treatments to achieve their desired results. Treatments are usually spaced a few weeks apart, to allow the skin time to generate new collagen and elastin between treatments.

To keep the results long-term, we usually recommend occasional maintenance treatments. With regular BBL™ treatments, patients can expect a dramatic influence on how their skin ages, and they will retain their youthful skin for longer.

The BBL™ PhotoFacial can be a beneficial treatment for a wide range of people with a variety of skin concerns. You may be a candidate for the BBL™ PhotoFacial if you have any of the following cosmetic conditions:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Dull complexion
  • Textured skin
  • Rosacea
  • Acne scarring
  • Spider veins or broken capillaries
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Enlarged pores
  • Redness
  • Skin laxity

The cost of the BBL™ PhotoFacial can range depending on your geographic location and the experience of your provider. Ultimately, the cost of your treatment will be determined by how many sessions you need to achieve your desired results. BroadBand Light therapy treatments cost an average of $700 per session.
