Am I a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Pregnancy, weight loss, and other events can cause your breasts to sag. In many cases, the nipples and areolas start to point downward. A breast lift can return your breasts to their more youthful, lifted position. This procedure can dramatically improve your confidence and self-esteem.

What is a Breast Lift?

If your breasts have started to sag after pregnancy or significant weight loss, a breast lift can restore their appearance. This procedure removes excess skin and repositions the areola to give you firmer, perkier breasts. You can have a breast lift alone or in combination with other procedures to help reclaim your pre-baby body or correct sagging skin after weight loss. Dr. Rankin has substantial experience performing breast lifts and other breast procedures.

Am I a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

If you have sagging breasts, you may want to know if a breast lift can help you. Good candidates for a breast lift:

  • Have no significant health problems
  • Do not smoke or can stop several weeks before and after surgery
  • Understand the risks and benefits of the procedure
  • Have reasonable expectations about their results
  • Want to correct sagging breasts and downward-pointing areolas
  • Maintain a stable weight and do not plan to become pregnant in the future
  • Have the patience to let the body heal during recovery

The best candidates for a breast lift are generally happy with their breast volume when wearing a bra but dislike their sagging appearance without one. A breast lift performed on its own will reposition your breasts without changing their volume.

Do I Need a Breast Lift or Breast Augmentation?

If you have concerns about breast sagging after pregnancy, you may also have noticed volume loss. Breast augmentation works well with a breast lift to help you achieve fuller, more lifted breasts. If your breasts sag and have more volume than you would like, you can also combine a breast lift with a breast reduction to achieve a more proportionate, shapely appearance.

What is Recovery Like From a Breast Lift?

We use long-lasting local anesthesia during your breast lift procedure. It will last for three days, minimizing any discomfort. If your job does not require physical activity, you may be able to go back to work in less than a week. You can resume light exercise after two weeks and more strenuous activities, including weight training, after four to six weeks.

What Results Will I See From a Breast Lift?

You will notice a difference in your breasts immediately. However, you will have some swelling that keeps you from appreciating your full results for a few weeks. Your results will continue to improve for several months as any residual swelling fades away.
