What is a Deep Plane Facelift?
Aging affects your facial features in several ways. Along with environmental damage to the skin’s surface and loss of facial volume over time, people experience concerns such as skin laxity, wrinkles, and loss of definition. A deep plane facelift is a powerful form of facial rejuvenation that transforms your features into a refreshed, youthful version of you.

What is a Deep Plane Facelift?
A traditional facelift or rhytidectomy is a widely popular plastic surgery procedure that lifts and tightens the skin to smooth away wrinkles and correct sagging. However, lifting the skin without the underlying structures can leave you with an artificially tightened look.
A deep plane facelift lifts the skin along with the layers of muscle and connective tissue beneath it for a naturally rejuvenated appearance. It is considered a more advanced version of the traditional facelift and provides superior results. Dr. Rankin usually combines a facelift and neck lift to address the lower face, jawline, and neck in one procedure.
How is a Deep Plane Facelift Performed?
Incisions for a deep plane facelift are usually hidden around the ears, allowing Dr. Rankin to access the muscle and tissue layers as well as the skin. Repositioning these layers often corrects the appearance of sagging skin without the need to remove as much excess as a traditional procedure.
Many other procedures can be performed at the same time as rhytidectomy. Dr. Rankin often recommends facial fat transfer for individuals who can benefit from restoring lost volume in areas like the cheeks, temples, and many others. Other common options include blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), a brow lift, or laser treatments to improve issues like sun damage and uneven tone. , especially as busy parents, can be a challenge during the best of times. While the other components of a mommy makeover address your appearance, vaginal rejuvenation can improve your comfort, quality of life, and even your relationship with your partner.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Deep Plane Facelift?
There is no ideal age for rhytidectomy, and each person ages differently. You must be in good health to have this procedure, and realistic expectations are important. Good candidates typically have concerns about sagging and wrinkles in the mid and lower face, jawline, and neck. You should not have a deep plane facelift if you are pregnant or have certain medical conditions.
What is Recovery Like After a Deep Plane Facelift?
Dr. Rankin uses a long-acting local anesthetic during surgery that lasts for several days, allowing you to recover with minimal discomfort. You can expect to see some swelling and minor bruising, but these will mostly fade within about two weeks.
Most people return to work a week or two after their rhytidectomy. However, if you are planning an event where you want to look your best, you should plan at least two to three months for the swelling to resolve. Your results can continue to evolve for six months or more.
