Breast Lift Walnut Creek

Mastopexy/Breast Lift in Walnut Creek

Mastopexy is a safe procedure and will not affect your ability to breastfeed. In order to provide the safest environment, breast lift surgery should be performed in a certified surgery center or hospital with the support of an anesthesiologist.

The best candidates for mastopexy or breast lift are those that are happy with their breast size when wearing a bra, but wish their nipple/ areola was in a more youthful position. Whether you are looking for rejuvenation after having children, massive weight loss, or previous breast surgery, we will work with you to understand your goals. Once we are on the same page, we will design a procedure that will provide a long lasting breast lift that you can enjoy for years to come.

A breast lift can be performed in a number of different ways. Incisions can be hidden along the border of the areola (circle lift), along the areola with a vertical extension along the lower breast (lollipop lift), or a lollipop lift with a horizontal extension hidden along the lower breast fold (anchor pattern, or Wise pattern). We will work together to find the best balance that will minimize scarring and maximize aesthetics.

Breast lifts are performed on an outpatient basis.  It is not uncommon for our patients to have surgery on Friday and return to work on Monday. Long acting local anesthetic is used during all breast surgery. This medication lasts for about 3 days following surgery in order to maximize comfort and minimize the use of narcotics that can make you drowsy, disoriented and even constipated.

During your recovery, we recommend activities of daily living for the first 2 weeks (short walks, household activities). From 2-4 weeks, we recommend beginning some non-jarring cardio like an elliptical without arms. After 4 weeks, you can begin to reintroduce resistance training (no chest exercise). After 8 weeks, you can resume full chest exercises, but its important to listen to your body. Slow and controlled motions will allow you to stop before hurting yourself. If it hurts… don’t do it. If an implant is combined with your breast lift surgery, we recommend no chest exercises until about 12 weeks after surgery in order to ensure that the precise location of the implant does not shift in an unwanted direction.

If you are preparing for an event (wedding, birthday, vacation, reunion, etc), we recommend surgery no less than 8-12 weeks before your big day, in order to ensure proper garment sizing and full activity. For completeness, no breast conversation is complete without a word on breast surgery and breast cancer. Numerous studies have shown that there is no difference in survival between lifted and non-lifted patients with breast cancer. Studies have also shown that there is no delay in breast cancer treatment when comparing patients with or without breast surgery. We do recommend getting a mammogram 6 months after any breast lift or breast reduction in order to establish a new “normal” for your radiologist whenever your start your recommended screening mammograms.
