SF Bay Area Renuvion®

Do you have loose skin as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, or aging? Traditionally, the only way to improve the appearance of skin laxity was to remove the excess skin during an extensive surgical procedure. Now, with Renuvion®, there is a minimally invasive treatment option to improve skin elasticity and firmness.

Renuvion® is a less invasive alternative to skin excision surgery. Using radiofrequency technology and cold helium plasma, Renuvion® causes precise tissue contraction to firm the skin. Renuvion® works immediately to improve the skin’s appearance, and results continue to improve over the following months. 

Renuvion® can be performed as a stand-alone procedure for people with mild to moderate skin laxity. Many patients also choose to have Renuvion® treatments combined with a surgical procedure such as liposuction, which removes unwanted fat deposits but does not address loose skin.

Renuvion® can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia, depending on your unique treatment plan and whether you choose to undergo an additional procedure simultaneously. During the treatment, Dr. Rankin will make small incisions around the desired treatment area(s), hidden in inconspicuous locations. 

The Renuvion® device is then inserted under the skin, and radiofrequency energy is used to safely heat the subdermal tissue and cutaneous ligaments. In less than a second, helium plasma cools the treated area. As a result, the collagen fibers in the skin contract, and the body’s healing process stimulates more collagen production. The protein collagen provides structure and support to the tissue and leads to increased firmness and elasticity.   

A Renuvion® treatment takes at least 30 minutes to perform, depending on the size and number of areas that Dr. Rankin is treating. If you pair your Renuvion® treatment with an additional procedure, surgical times will increase. You will notice a difference in skin quality immediately after the treatment, but results will continue to improve over the following months as collagen levels increase.

Renuvion® requires significantly smaller incisions than traditional skin excision surgery and therefore has a shorter recovery time. Most patients can expect a few days of rest and recovery after Renuvion®. Patients may experience some soreness and swelling in the treated areas, which can last up to a few weeks. 

If you choose to have Renuvion® in conjunction with a surgical procedure like liposuction, downtime may increase. For a combined Renuvion® and liposuction surgery, recovery times range from one to three weeks. 

Renuvion® may be a great minimally-invasive option for people with mild to moderate skin laxity who are considering a tummy tuck. Renuvion® can also be used on other areas of the body, including the following:

  • Back
  • Abdomen
  • Arms 
  • Thighs
