Am I a Candidate for a Neck Lift?

Aging can result in dramatic changes to the appearance of the neck. This occurs because the skin on our neck is much thinner than our face, making it more susceptible to sagging and wrinkling. If you have sagging skin and bands around your neck, you might be a good candidate for a neck lift.

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is an anti-aging surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the neck. Dr. Rankin tightens excess skin and repairs underlying muscle layers during a neck lift to create a smoother, more youthful appearance. The procedure can be performed on its own or in combination with a facelift, which can help to address issues with sagging skin on the face and jowls.

Am I a Candidate for a Neck Lift?

If you are bothered by the appearance of your neck, you may be a good candidate for a neck lift. Dr. Rankin suggests that the ideal candidate for a neck lift is someone who has loose, sagging skin or other signs of aging in the neck area. You should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the procedure.

Dr. Rankin notes that patients who smoke or have certain medical conditions may not be good candidates for a neck lift. He’ll discuss these details with you during your consultation at our Greenbrae or Walnut Creek office.

How Does a Neck Lift Work?

Dr. Rankin performs a Deep Neck Lift that focuses on tightening and restoring the deeper layers of the neck. Unlike procedures that remove fat, this neck lift keeps natural fat layers intact while tightening other structures to create a sculpted, smoother look. The location of the incisions depends on how Dr. Rankin chooses to perform your procedure, but they will be carefully hidden in creases of the skin or other locations.

What is Recovery Like From a Neck Lift?

Recovery from a neck lift typically takes about two weeks. You may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort during this time, but these symptoms should subside as you heal. Dr. Rankin may recommend that his patients wear a compression garment for the first few days after the procedure. This garment can help to reduce swelling and promote healing.

You should also keep your head elevated and avoid bending or lifting anything heavy for the first week after the procedure. You may be able to return to work within a week or so. However,  avoid activities that could strain your neck for at least two weeks.

How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost?

The cost of a neck lift can vary depending on several factors, including the surgeon’s experience, the practice’s location, and the procedure’s extent. The national average cost of a neck lift in the United States is $9,275.

You should note that this cost does not include any additional fees, such as anesthesia or facility fees, which can add several thousand dollars to the total cost of the procedure. During your consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Rankin, you’ll be able to discuss the cost of the procedure and any financing options that may be available to you.
