How Does Rhinoplasty Work?

The nose is often one of the first features we notice when we look at others. It forms the center of the face, and this can make people with symmetry, size, or shape issues very self-conscious. Boost your confidence with rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job.”

What is Rhinoplasty?

As one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty can provide amazing results in the hands of a skilled surgeon. Dr. Rankin performs rhinoplasty to improve the appearance of the nose, fix a crooked nose, or correct certain types of breathing issues. Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose to create a new facial harmony.

How Does Rhinoplasty Work?

Dr. Rankin performs several types of rhinoplasty. Depending on your needs, he may perform a closed rhinoplasty using incisions inside the nose. He may also perform an open rhinoplasty, using a small incision between the nostrils, if he needs to access more structures. Most rhinoplasties are performed in our accredited surgical center. After the procedure, your incisions will be closed, and you will rest in our recovery center before going home.

What are the Types of Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty can do more than change the appearance of your nose. A functional rhinoplasty addresses several breathing issues caused by the structure of the nose. One of the most common is a deviated septum, which can occur naturally or as a result of injury. Correcting a deviated septum can significantly improve your breathing.

Dr. Rankin performs ethnic rhinoplasty, a procedure that focuses on global and culturally sensitive ideas of beauty. He also performs revision rhinoplasty to correct the results of a previous procedure. His skill and experience allow him to address even the most challenging procedures.

What is Recovery Like After Rhinoplasty?

Your recovery will depend on the details of your procedure. You usually have splints inside and outside your nose until Dr. Rankin removes them. Many people experience swelling and bruising that can appear under the eyes. Most people can return to work and light activities after one to two weeks. Bruising and swelling will continue to fade for the first several weeks. Your results will continue to improve for up to a year as your nose heals into its new shape.
