What are Dermal Fillers Used For?

Almost all of us have features we would like to enhance. Dermal fillers provide volume, shape, and projection almost anywhere you want them. These body-safe injectables are used for many purposes, from line and wrinkle treatment to fuller, plumper lips.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Your expert injectors at NorCal Plastic Surgery have extensive experience in the art of using dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are a non-surgical treatment designed to restore volume and shape to the skin. They use various materials, including hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in our skin. They come in various formulas that target concerns such as lips, deep creases, and even buttock enhancement.

What are Dermal Fillers Used For?

Dermal fillers are used to restore volume and youthfulness to the skin, particularly in areas that have lost fat and collagen as we age. Some of the most common uses for dermal fillers include:

Treating wrinkles and fine lines

Dermal fillers offer an excellent option for smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines on the face. They can fill in smile lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, and forehead wrinkles.

Restoring volume to the cheeks

The cheeks can lose volume as we age, making the face look sunken and tired. Dermal fillers can restore cheek volume, providing a more youthful appearance.

Enhancing the lips

Dermal fillers can also enhance the lips, providing a fuller, more plump look. They can be used to fill in thin lips or to create a more defined lip line.

Buttock Enhancement

Sculptra®,  a type of dermal filler that enhances collagen production, can improve the shape and volume of the buttocks.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

The lasting time of a dermal filler depends on several factors, including where the filler has been injected and how your body metabolizes it. Most hyaluronic acid dermal fillers last from six months to two years. Sculptra® results can last two years or more. While Sculptra® is a longer-lasting option, it may not be suitable for all the areas where your injection specialist uses HA fillers.

Is There Any Downtime With Dermal Fillers?

One of the benefits of dermal fillers is the minimal downtime associated with the treatment. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. You may notice minor swelling, bruising, or redness around the injection site. This will fade within a few days.

Choose a qualified Norcal Plastic Surgery injection specialist to minimize the risk of side effects. They will take the time to assess your individual needs, recommend the right filler, and provide post-treatment advice to help you achieve the best possible results.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers offer a temporary, convenient way to restore or rejuvenate your appearance. The best candidates have reasonable expectations and no history of reactions to fillers. You might not be a good candidate if you have an infection or skin condition in the treatment area.
