What Does Laser Resurfacing Do?

An accumulation of aging and sun damage can leave skin looking dull and damaged. Laser resurfacing brings vibrant new cells to the surface of your skin. The process can erase years of sun damage, acne scarring, and skin laxity. We offer a range of laser treatments so that we can choose the one that will address your concerns.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing works by using specific wavelengths of light energy to remove targeted layers of the skin. The depth of the treatment determines which conditions it can treat and how many sessions you will need. The rejuvenated surface layers look brighter, smoother, and clearer. Laser treatments also stimulate increased collagen production to firm and smooth your skin.

What Does Laser Resurfacing Do?

Laser skin resurfacing removes dull, lifeless layers of skin. Treatment replaces old, damaged cells with energized new ones. Each type of laser resurfacing targets a different skin depth to treat numerous different skin conditions. Dr. Rankin and the NorCal Plastic Surgery team will choose the right one for you. Many lasers used for skin resurfacing work by creating tiny areas of micro-damage that stimulates the skin’s repair process. The new collagen produced will improve skin laxity and restore more youthful smoothness.

What Can Laser Skin Resurfacing Treat?

We offer a range of laser resurfacing systems to help you achieve your desired results. These include the MicroLaser Peel™, ProFractional™ Laser, Halo™ Laser, and BBL™ PhotoFacial. These lasers can treat skin issues, including:

  • Skin laxity
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne scarring
  • Dullness
  • Flakiness
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Sun damage

Laser skin resurfacing is one of the most effective all-purpose methods of facial rejuvenation. Some require a series of treatments to achieve the desired results. Others may only require one or two sessions. Only a consultation can determine what type of treatment and how many sessions you will need.

Is There Any Downtime With Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Downtime for this procedure varies depending on the type and depth of treatment. A laser that only treats the outer layers of the epidermis may not require any downtime. More intensive laser treatment might cause some minor redness and peeling that lasts a few days. Your skin will be extremely sun-sensitive after laser skin resurfacing. Make sure to wear sun protection and avoid exposure as much as possible.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

We have a laser skin resurfacing treatment appropriate for almost anyone. Good candidates have reasonable expectations and want younger-looking skin. You should not have laser skin resurfacing if you have an infection or active skin condition. Most people make good candidates and will look noticeably younger after treatment.
