What Is Contour TRL?
Contour TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is an erbium:YAG ablative laser that removes targeted layers of damaged skin at a precisely adjustable depth. As the skin heals, dead and damaged cells are replaced by a renewed surface, and the controlled injury stimulates collagen production in the layers beneath.
The defining feature is tunability. The same platform can perform a shallow nano peel with a weekend of recovery or a deep resurfacing treatment that addresses years of accumulated damage in a single session.
What Can Contour TRL Treat?
Depending on the depth selected, Contour TRL may improve:
- Pronounced sun damage and sun spots
- Fine lines and deeper wrinkles
- Acne scarring and other scars
- Hyperpigmentation and uneven tone

How Deep Does Treatment Go?
Treatment depth is selected for the concern, broadly ranging across three levels. A nano-level peel removes only the outermost cells and heals in a day or two. A micro-level peel, comparable to a MicroLaser Peel, removes mild accumulated damage with a few days of flaking. A deep peel removes more substantial damage and remodels deeper lines and scars, trading one to two weeks of recovery for correction that lighter treatments cannot reach.
Deeper treatment is not automatically better. The right depth removes the damage that exists and stops there.
What Happens During Contour TRL Treatment?
The skin is cleansed and numbed, protective eyewear is placed, and comfort measures are matched to the planned depth; lighter peels generally need only topical numbing, while deeper resurfacing may involve additional preparation discussed in advance.
The laser is passed over the treatment area in a controlled pattern, removing tissue at the selected depth. Erbium:YAG energy vaporizes tissue with minimal residual heat, which supports precise depth control. Afterward, the skin is dressed with a protective ointment and you receive detailed care instructions.
Unlike treatments that rely on a series, deeper Contour TRL resurfacing is generally planned as a single corrective session.
What Is Recovery Like?
Recovery tracks the depth. A nano peel may involve a day or two of redness and light flaking. Mid-depth treatment typically means several days of swelling, peeling, and pinkness. Deep resurfacing leaves the skin raw initially and generally requires seven to fourteen days of dedicated healing, with ointment care, gentle cleansing, and real social downtime; residual pinkness can persist for weeks after.

When Will I See Results?
Smoother, more even skin emerges as peeling completes, often within the first week for lighter treatments. Improvement continues for months as collagen rebuilds beneath the renewed surface, and deeper treatments generally show the most dramatic change once early redness fades.
Results from deep resurfacing are long-lasting, but no laser stops aging or future sun damage. Sun protection and a compatible professional skin care regimen protect the investment.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Contour TRL?
Because depth is adjustable, many patients can be treated at some level. The strongest candidates for deeper resurfacing have fair to light-medium skin tones, meaningful sun damage, wrinkles, or scarring, and the ability to accommodate the recovery.
Deeper skin tones carry a higher risk of pigment change after ablative resurfacing, and some patients are better served by a different technology; that determination requires an in-person evaluation. Treatment may also need to be modified or postponed for active infection, cold sores, recent tanning, isotretinoin use, or a history of abnormal scarring or pigment problems.
